The Myna Bird

“The Myna Bird” by Nicole Costa

The myna bird is native to India, Asia, and Pakistan and is known for its ability to imitate the environment around it, as well as, being a symbol of undying love.

I first became aware of this particular bird in a warrior state. I’ve only known the Myna in war and conflict, fighting all the time, not even other birds, but each other, brawling on the jungle floor.

Now I am here on the heart island purging the remnants of war from my own heart, and the Mynas here are peaceful and they work together as a tribe. I can hardly believe this is the same bird I’ve come to know. Even the tone of their call is different.

Ultimately we have to learn to control our own nature and emotions, but when we are in a continuous state of conflict we learn to fight to survive. Sometimes the problem is not within us, it is in the environment that we find ourselves in.

When we are in a place where we do not have to fight for our most basic needs: food, shelter, safety and warmth, we can thrive and be the best versions we are innately designed to be, not just in harmony with ourselves, but in harmony with those around us, as well, regardless of our differences.

Human beings don’t always act with the best intentions, even when we know better, but all creation under the sun is worthy of a life of peace, and love, free from war and hunger.

We may not be able to change the conditions of our surroundings, but we do have the ability to remove ourselves from people, places, and things that bring conflict and seek to destroy our peace.

Thank you Myna bird for the message of new hope and transformation that you bring!
