In Sheep’s Pasture
“In Sheep’s Pasture”
by Nicole Costa
Mother Kambo
You cause me
To lie down
In sheep’s pasture
Giving birth
To the spirit
Of
My daughter
A lamb
Brought to the slaughter
The one
Who pierces
The valley
The child
That never had life
All she ever knew
Was strife
Like her mother
Conceived in battle
Brought to the knees
Fallen off of
The saddle
A soldier
Killed in rebellion
Twenty two years
Of the silence
No telling
Three days
In the fields
Giving labour
Profound clarity
At the end
Finding favor
Uncovering what
I was burying
Severing the cord
Of
Attachment
Releasing the guilt
I’ve been carrying
Not knowing
What to expect
But kept going
Inner voice
Guides the way
That deep knowing
Three by three by three
Grid
Burnt into my arm
Frog Spirit
Inside me
Out on the farm
Dancing around me
A symbol of transition
Setting intentions
Revealing the vision
To the secret door
Of the past
The key
To discovering
The mission
Master number
Complete
An ending
And
A new beginning
