Her Name is Nicole
“Her Name is Nicole”
by Nicole Costa
I was at work
When I got the call
A woman with
Your name
Your age
Your profile
Waiting on an autopsy
It will be awhile
Another Hit and run
No identifier
Just a homeless woman they say
There’s no one to claim her
No one to pay
They left her on a path
I walked each day
Cause
I didn’t have a car
Though I worked seven days
When I picked her up
From the morgue
I was amazed
Even after the impact
Her beauty radiates
Wondering thoughts
Inside of me
What’s a beautiful woman
Like you
Doing alone on the streets
She was not weak
Her spirit is strong
From that moment on
It won’t leave me alone
I write this song
To show you
That you are heard
I won’t let you go
Without a blessing
And a word
Rest in peace
My sister
Mahalo
For the greatest lesson
No matter
No matter
No matter how hard
This life is a blessing
So open your heart
Let someone in
Cause love is all
There really is
At times life seems long
But it’s really brief
Remember me
My name is Nicole
I wasn’t just
A woman on the street
I am a mother
I am a child
I am more
Then what you see
So please dear sister
Have mercy
When you cremate me
Remember
What it’s like out on the streets
This could have been you
Instead it is me
So go live in love
Let go of all the pain
All that ever was
Life will never
Again
Be the same
One thing that’s certain
Fire brings forth change
From fire to fire
And out of the ashes
We’re forever transformed
Because of our passing
Sister I see you
I hear you
I feel you
Know that your life mattered
Your death matters
You matter
Thank you!
(3x)
I’m alive
I’m alive
I’m alive
I’m alive
It’s time to thrive
